FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

QUESTION #1

How do I know if my student will benefit from the AP Calculus Support Course Program?

Is your student enrolled in AP AB Calculus or AP BC Calculus? If you answered yes, then your student will benefit from the AP Calculus Support Course Program. No matter what level your student is at, I am able to reach him or her. Your student ALWAYS has the opportunity for growth. The AP Exam creates problems at a Level 1, 2, and 3 difficulty (with 3 being the hardest problems). We practice all the different levels in the course and I am also able to differentiate lessons and quiz questions to your student's progress. I have worked with students in AP Calculus who are years behind in math from their classmates and national averages, students who are teaching themselves AP Calculus, students who want to go to top universities, students who are just looking to gain some experience with Calculus before college, and every type of student in between. With my help, each of those students passed AP Calculus and the AP Calculus Exam.

QUESTION #2

What is the purpose of the AP Calculus Support Course Program?

The purpose of the AP Calculus Support Course Program is to provide intensive and focused instruction to students prepare for AP Calculus and the AP Calculus Exam. The Support Course aims to enhance students' understanding of calculus concepts, improve their problem-solving skills, and equip them with effective exam strategies to achieve high scores in the class and on the AP Exam.

QUESTION #3

It sounds like this program has a lot of value, why is there such a huge discount?

Yes, expert AP Calculus tutors charge $239 per hour on some tutoring platforms. I personally want to be able to help as many people as I can — and I know this program can do that. I don’t want to price it so high that only people with deep pockets can afford it. Additionally, my heart hurts when I'm grading the AP Exams and 50% of all students don't pass. Many times, it isn't their fault! Given the right opportunities and exposure to the material, the student's odds of passing drastically increases. From the bottom of my heart, I want to give as many students as possible a chance to pass the AP Calculus Exam.

QUESTION #4

How do I know which option to sign up my child?

When deciding which number of sessions to sign up for, there are a few factors you can consider to make an informed decision:

Prior Knowledge: Assess your child's current level of mathematic understanding. How did they do in Pre-Calculus? How do they feel about going into AP Calculus? How is your child's current AP Calculus teacher? What is their confidence like? If your child feels uncertain about their mathematical skills or want to reinforce their understanding, signing up for more classes would be beneficial.

Ready To Get Ahead or Reinforce: The schedule I set above for both courses is aligned to what I actually do in my AP Calculus classes. With this schedule your student will have twelve weeks of exam preparation time for the AP Calculus Exam which I find is ideal. My schedule may or may not align to your student's schedule. It may be ahead or it may be behind. In both cases, your child can still benefit from the program. This is discussed in Question #5 below. If your child wants to get ahead of their classmates, then more sessions allows your student to have a more robust understanding of the AP Calculus material. They will be ready for their unit exams, which reduces an extreme amount of stress.

Time Availability: Evaluate the time your child has available for the Support Courses. If you have sufficient time, signing up for twice a week can provide a more comprehensive review and preparation for the AP Calculus course. If your child's schedule is limited, you may need to prioritize and choose the amount of sessions that covers the areas you'd consider most important or challenging.

Readiness for the AP Exam: Consider the student's preparation for the AP Calculus exam. If they don't feel well-prepared or their practice test scores are low, additional classes could be helpful.

Time in Class: Evaluate how much time the student spends in their regular AP Calculus class. If they feel that the class moves too quickly or they need more individual attention, extra support classes may be beneficial.

Quality of Teaching: Sometimes, students may not be getting the support they need from their regular teacher. If the student feels that the teacher is not adequately preparing them, supplemental classes with a different instructor could help.

Student's Commitment: Consider the student's willingness to put in the effort required for success. More classes can be beneficial, but only if the student is committed to attending and actively participating in them.

BC Calculus: Did your student take AB Calculus already? If so, you can sign up for the BC only portion. If your child is taking AB and BC concurrently, then you should be considering the AB schedule at this time. We can fit in BC material after the AB portion is complete. We may need to personalize a schedule for your child, so message or email me and we can discuss this option for your child.

QUESTION #5

Your schedule isn't aligned to what my child is doing in class. Are these Support Classes still beneficial?

Yes. Yes. Yes. And one thousand more yeses. My tutoring schedule is specifically designed to prepare students for the AP exam, providing them with twelve weeks of focused exam preparation afterwards. While it may not always perfectly align with their classroom curriculum, this can actually be a significant advantage for your child. Here's why:

Advanced Preparation: The AP Calculus exam is rigorous and requires a deep understanding of the subject. By exposing your child to advanced topics and concepts that may extend beyond their classroom syllabus, they can be better prepared for the exam's challenging questions.

Comprehensive Understanding: My tutoring approach aims to cover a broader spectrum of calculus topics. This can help your child develop a more comprehensive understanding of calculus, which is valuable not only for the exam but for their overall math skills.

Adaptive Learning: Sometimes, students struggle with specific topics covered in their classroom. My support course can provide an opportunity for your child to receive additional instruction and practice in areas where they may need extra help, even if those topics aren't currently being taught in their school.

Confidence Boost: Success in the AP exam is not only about knowing what's taught in class but also about being confident in one's ability to solve complex problems independently. Exposure to a wider range of topics can boost your child's confidence in their mathematical abilities.

. Preparation for College: The AP Calculus exam is excellent preparation for college-level mathematics. Gaining a strong foundation in calculus now can give your child an advantage when they encounter similar topics in college courses.

Office Hours: Remember I offer office hours after each class. If your child needs to discuss something more current in class, that is the perfect time to bring it up. Additionally, if you purchase more sessions, then you also get private one-on-one tutoring time with me for free. These are typically redeemed when your child has an exam in class and wants or needs extra practice or support.

In conclusion, while my tutoring schedule may not always align with your child's classroom curriculum, it is strategically designed to provide comprehensive preparation for the AP exam. The exposure to advanced topics and the focus on problem-solving skills will benefit your child's overall mathematical growth and increase their chances of success on the exam.
